There is an increasing problem with progressive ageing of the population from both sides of the borders and depopulation due to intense migration towards West Europe countries which lead to significant lack of physicians, and other health care professionals, due to their lost in retirement or emigration.
From the population point of view, with ageing, there are changes in the health care needs of the population, which have to be addressed by well trained and competent physicians, nurses and medical technologists.
Competency is medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, patient care, system-based practice and practice-based learning necessary to provide appropriate health care.
As major high educational institution in the region, University of Osijek and University of Pecs recognize that there is an urgency to reexamine all the premises of medical education, including the role of the basic sciences for the practice of medicine in the study programmes of the 21st century.
University of Osijek and University of Pecs are the only two high educational institutions in the border region that educate medical professionals at all levels of high education. Thus, it is of ultimate importance to create teaching and learning environment which will provide the best possible condition to educate students for specificity of contemporary medical practice.
These partners have more of a decade of very sucessful collaboration in projects. ImproveMEd project proposal is educational extension of Health Impulse in terms of preparing and performing joined educational postgraduate specialistic training program in basic medical sciences, providing theoretical and practical knowledge in laboratory environment for health care professionals who are in direct contact with patients but also working in clinical laboratories.
